An energy supplier is a company that acquires its electricity, renewable energy or natural gas supplies from the wholesale market and is licensed to sell it retail to homes and businesses. Wholesale energy supply sources include much of the same sources that other marketers will use, such as electricity generators or the open market. An energy supplier is not your local utility. The utility still operates the local distribution wires and pipes which carry electricity and natural gas through its territory and to homes and businesses. An energy supplier purchases and supplies energy, then the local utility delivers the energy to your home.Learn more about Atlanta Gas Light's role- We're Working for You

Energy choice has been around for more than two decades in certain states and is designed to ensure consumers have access to adequate and competitively priced energy supplies. While your local utility is still responsible for maintaining the wires, pipes and infrastructure that make up the distribution system, reading your meter and responding to emergencies, the utility no longer holds a monopoly on the energy service. Customers have the ability to choose from multiple competitive retailers that offer various service plans at competing rates.
The Dedicated Design Day Capacity (DDDC) is a metric utilized by AGL to determine the amount of natural gas allocated ("dedicated") to individual homes or businesses. It's calculated based on past gas consumption patterns and the peak demand experienced on the coldest day of the year. AGL is tasked with ensuring sufficient pipeline and storage capacity to fulfill every customer's requirements during severe cold spells, and the DDDC calculation plays a crucial role in achieving this objective.
The DDDC accounts for the operational expenses incurred during the coldest day of the year, and it undergoes annual reassessment. For the majority of households and small businesses, natural gas serves as a primary source of heating. Thus, during cold weather, having an ample supply of natural gas becomes essential to maintaining warmth within your premises. Consequently, your DDDC Factor is determined through an analysis of past usage trends, the number of natural gas appliances, and other pertinent factors influencing the demand on the system's capacity at your location. In instances where you're a new customer lacking 12 months of consumption history with Atlanta Gas Light, the DDDC is computed based on factors such as the gas equipment utilized, the square footage of your space, and the structural type.
AGL conducts an annual recalculation and updating of the DDDC specific to your location. Consequently, each September, you can expect to observe this update reflected on your bill. During this yearly assessment, AGL meticulously scrutinizes the past gas consumption and usage patterns at your residence or establishment. The primary determinant influencing your DDDC calculation is the comparison between last year's gas usage during the coldest period and your typical summer consumption, if applicable. AGL utilizes this data to gauge the amount of natural gas typically required during cold weather, thus establishing your DDC to ensure adequate reserves for your premises. As alterations to your DDDC directly impact AGL Pass-Through Charges, you may notice fluctuations in your bills from year to year if your DDDC undergoes adjustments. It's important to note that your DDDC Factor is location-specific, meaning that if you relocate, your DDDC will be recalibrated for your new address and reset accordingly in September.

A fixed price plan provides you with stability and peace of mind. A fixed-price product may be higher or lower than utility rates, but, unlike utility rates, a fixed-price product will not change during the life of your contract. You are protected against unexpected and costly price increases and have greater control over the cost of your energy. Unlike a fixed price plan, a variable price plan fluctuates monthly and does not protect you against price volatility. This may be higher or lower than the utility rate.
